Circle to Search: Google ci porta nel futuro delle ricerche online

In the 2024 digital ecosystem, access to information is more than ever just a touch away.

When we talk about online searches, we often don’t realize it, but today we can perform actions in a tenth of a second that were unthinkable even just 10 years ago. And one of the main architects of this dizzying evolution is always him, the usual suspect: Mr. Google.

First voice search, then smart speakers, followed by Gemini artificial intelligence, and now Google Circle to Search. We have all noticed that good old Google has become increasingly dominant in recent years.

But for those of us who also love to present data to validate an opinion, here they are, ready to use: in 2022, Google Chrome is the most popular browser in all (A L L) countries of the world, with the exception of Equatorial Guinea, Belize, the Principality of Andorra, and… Greenland.

Now Google has taken a further step forward by introducing “Circle to Search” on the latest Android devices, such as the Google Pixel 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S24.

This feature, which leverages artificial intelligence to simplify and make online information searching more intuitive, marks the actual beginning of a new era.

What is Google Circle to Search?

Circle to Search is the innovative Google feature that allows users to search for information directly from the screen of their Android device, simply by drawing a circle (Circle) around the object of interest.

Whether it is a product in a photo, text in an article, or a place in a video, this function opens up infinite possibilities for exploration for a quick and intuitive search that, through AI, manages to return the most relevant result to the user within a few seconds.circle to search google ricerche online

How Circle to Search works

The functioning of Circle to Search is extremely simple. Users can activate it with natural gestures such as encircling an object with their finger, highlighting, or scribbling on whatever piques their curiosity, and Google’s artificial intelligence will do the rest.

Google, through its advanced AI algorithms, immediately recognizes the selected element and provides detailed information, relevant links, or purchase options, all without the need to switch apps.

To give a practical example, if while watching a cooking video tutorial we see the creator using a hot chili sauce, we can use the Circle to Search function to search for that specific product, or ask Google to suggest other recipes that use hot chili sauce as an ingredient.

How to enable Circle to Search on an Android device

Before you can start using Circle to Search on an Android device, you need to ensure that the feature is enabled.

Taking the configuration of a Galaxy S24 as an example, when you long-press the Home button or the navigation bar (depending on whether you use buttons or gesture navigation), a message appears with two options: Google Assistant or Circle to Search. From here, it will be possible to set “Cerchia e Cerca” (according to the Italian translation) as the default option.

There are some significant differences between devices with button-based navigation and gesture-based navigation. While for the former, as mentioned, the function is activated by holding down the Home button, for the latter, a new shortcut has been introduced, which activates the Circle to Search interface by holding down the gesture indicator (or “pill”) at the bottom of the screen.

Why is it revolutionary? Practical applications

Circle to Search is revolutionary because it transforms the way we interact with our device and with information itself. It provides an immediate solution to user curiosity, eliminating interruptions and improving the browsing experience.

Users can, for example, discover details in real time about a desired product seen in a video, obtain definitions and insights into concepts or words, explore places and tourist attractions directly from images or clips, and much more.

This immediate accessibility to information opens up a myriad of practical applications in everyday life and makes learning and discovery more fluid and natural than ever.

The importance of SEO in a “Circle to Search” world

For SEO professionals and content creators, Circle to Search represents a new territory to explore. Content optimization will have to take into account not only keywords, but also visual relevance and the context in which images and videos appear.

Integrating SEO strategies targeted at this type of search will allow for increased visibility and effectively capturing user attention in this innovative scenario. This includes optimization for visual searches and the clever use of metadata to ensure that content is easily identifiable and categorizable by Google’s AI.

SEO experts will therefore need to monitor emerging search trends and continuously adapt their strategies to anticipate user needs and offer precise and contextually relevant answers.

Final thoughts

Launched at the beginning of 2024, Circle to Search invites us to rethink the way we access information, making every search a fluid, intuitive, and incredibly personal experience. With the evolution of artificial intelligence and recognition technologies, Google continues to demonstrate that the future of information is literally in our hands.

This great innovation from Google represents a more intuitive and integrated way to satisfy user curiosity.

In short: Google Circle to Search represents a window into the future of online search.
